EOTC Week

Nga Te Moki

This week we have had a series of activities to choose from with 4 different subjects.
I chose to read about Nga Te Moki Marae because a couple years back I went to the Marae with my school. It was such an amazing experience.

Here is the work that I did.

1) Where did Cath Brown grow up? What roles did she hold?

-She grew up at taumutu and lived there most of her life.
-She held the position of Chair of Te Taumutu Rūnanga and Upoko.

2) What type of art did Cath make? How do you know she was successful at it?

-Ngati Tahu weaver.
-How we know she was definitely respectful because she was awarded the Sir kingi Ihaka!

3) Where is the marae located? What does the land around it look like?

-Taumutu on the quiet shores of Te waihora (lake ellesmere.

4) What does mahinga kai mean? What do you think they ate?

-Mahinga Kai means food source.
-Hangi

5) What is Ngāti Moki Marae built on?

-an old structure that stood on the same site.

6) What is the Awhitu House?

-a scene of many important gatherings. (Family gatherings, success gatherings and much more important stuff)
-it also was a gathering of success.

  1. Great job getting your marae questions up to your blog, Alyscia! I can tell that you really understood the reading as you were able to find sensible answers to all of your questions.

Well done on this task! I look forward to reading your next EOTC Week blog post!
